Caucasian Chalk Circle to open in September

VGP -The Youth Theatre brings Bertolt Brecht’s masterpiece the “Caucasian Chalk Circle” to the capital city from September 16-19.


Theatre Director Truong Nhuan said, audiences will find the novel translation by Vietnamese performers, directed by German Director Dominik Gunther, co-directed by Le Khanh and Sy Tien.

The play follows the story of a servant girl who saves the life of an abandoned baby boy in wartime. When the mother returns to claim him.

However, their fates lie in the hands of a wily, unpredictable judge. The play soars with humour, romance and unexpected plot twists.

Previously, another famous play by Bertolt Brecht’s “The Good Person of Szechuan” was staged at theatres acrossthe country and was warmly received by Vietnamese audiences.

"The Caucasian Chalk Circle" is one of the most famous plays of the German dramatist and poet Bertolt Brecht (1898 - 1956).

The Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with the Youth Theatre, brings this piece to the stage for the first time in Viet Nam in a modern production under the direction of German director Dominik Guenther, and with songs and rap-music.
