Ha Noi CPI declines 0.07% in May

VGP - May’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Ha Noi dropped 0.07% over the previous month, according to the city Statistics Office.

In May, CPI decline due to fall in prices of food and foodstuff basket which takes the largest percentage point in CPI calculation. Restaurant and food services group saw a 0.57% CPI reduction over a month earlier, in which food CPI decreased 0.93% and foodstuff price declined 0.7% while eating-out price rose 0.02%.

Prices of garments and textiles, hat and footwear group increased 0.36%. Other groups seeing price hikes are equipment and housing devices (0.41%), beverage and cigarette (0.15%), medicine and health services (0.06%), education (0.01%), culture, leisure and tourism (0.03%) and other commodities and services (0.32%). Prices of post and telecommunication group remained unchanged.

Prices of traffic reported the highest price hike jumped by 0.53% because petroleum and diesel prices increased in mid-April and the Government’s direction on checking overloaded autos was applied.

Two commodities which are non-calculated in the common CPI basket, gold and US dollar saw different changes. Prices of gold lost 1.4% on month while price of the US dollar was kept stable.
