VGP – Ha Noi has decided to exploit surface water from the Hong (Red) River in its Lien Hong commune, Dan Phuong district, aiming to supply sufficient clean water and ensuring a long-term water source for the city.
The second stage is scheduled to finish by 2020 to raise the capacity to 300,000 cubic meters a day.
The plant will cost around VND3.7 trillion (US$164.5 million) and its construction is planned to begin in this October.
The construction of the plant is seen as a move taken by Ha Noi to ease water shortages and ensure a long-term water source for the city when the main pipeline bringing water from the Da River for its residents have repeatedly been broken, causing supply interruptions.
Another project has also been started to increase the capacity of the Bac Thang Long - Van Tri Water Plant in Dong Anh district. It is scheduled to provide more 30,000 cubic metres per day to residents of Hoan Kiem and Hai Ba Trung and several inner city areas by March next year.
