Over 7 million private transport vehicles
Mr. Son reported that the city has resolved some ‘black’ spots on transport and traffic accidents. However, transport violations still occurred frequently.
The official blamed the transport infringements to poor transport infrastructure which has yet kept up with the sharp increase of private vehicles.
In 2008, Ha Noi had only 2.2 million vehicles. In 2017, the figure touched over 6 million, nearly three times. In 2018, the Capita had additional 27,000 cars, motorbikes, and electric bicycles and 1.2 million others from non-residents.
Recently, the number of taxi grew rapidly. Especially, over 41,000 Grab taxi cars are operating in Ha Noi.
The Vice Chairman also blamed local residents for their lack of awareness to comply with transport safety regulations and protect themselves.
Solutions
Vice Chairman Son stressed the necessity to regularly disseminate regulations on safety transport for local residents.
He underlined the importance of speeding up investigations to strictly punish violations in goods and passenger transportation.
The city is considering plans to build Red River bridges which will connect the downtown and satellite areas; and install 3,000 traffic surveillance cameras to ensure transport security and punish infringements./.
