Ha Noi is home to about 6.5 million motor vehicles and about 2 million others from surrounding localities.
The local authorities have spared no effort to develop infrastructure; organize transport circulation; and raise people’s awareness of transport safety. However, traffic congestion still occurs. Besides traffic jams, the amount of emission from motor vehicles has remarkably threatened the local environment.
So far, the city has allocated over a half of budget for transport infrastructure development. People’s living standards have been improved and vehicle costs have been on the decline. Hence, infrastructure development fails to catch up with increasing rate of private vehicles.
Director of the Ha Noi Transport Department Vu Van Vien reported that the city has 123 bus routes (100% of them get price subsidies) with 1,915 public buses. The bus network covers 30 out of 300 districts. It connects 62 out of 71 hospitals (accounting for 87%); 27 out of 27 hospitals; 30 out of 30 urban areas. Metro Line 2A from Cat Linh to Ha Dong will soon put into operation, expecting to accommodate 1,000 passengers. The Nhon-Ha Noi Station Line is expected to operate from 2020./.
