HN seeks special mechanisms for key projects

Big investment in urban infrastructure development

In the 2016-2020 period, the city will implement 51 key infrastructure projects worth over VND 276 trillion (US$ 12.2 billion), including 11 incomplete projects in the 2011-2015period and 40 new others in the 2016-2020 period. The number of key projects is three times higher than the last five years. Regarding investment modals, 31 projects are spending State budget and ODA source. The 20 others were in PPP modal.

Chairman of the Ha Noi municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung reported that the implementation progress of the 51 projects met schedule.

The local authorities would report to the PM and seek special mechanisms on procedures, ODA, and planning to timely realize the key projects especially on water supply, sewage treatment, and transport, he said.

Solving pressing transport demands

According to Secretary of the Ha Noi municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai, the city is determined to finalizing the 51 key projects on schedule and preparing for others in the next period in favor of local socio-economic development.

“This represents a heavy task for the city in the context of limited budget,” he stressed.

Over the last five years, total investment grew 9.24%. However, infrastructure investment expanded only 3.4%. The city is coping with heavy infrastructure pressure due to rapid population growth. The local socio-economy would be badly affected without drastic measures on infrastructure, he affirmed.

Mr. Hai tasked his inferiors to inspect projects with slow progress and replace weak and irresponsible bidders to realize the key projects on schedule./.
