PM requests West Lake fish-death probe
VGP – PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc asked the Hà Nội municipal People’s Committee to handle the recent West Lake mass fish death incident and work with district authorities and water service agencies to inspect all lakes in the city and report their findings to the Government.

Minister-Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung assessed that the incident with 60 tons of mass fish death loss is rare and unprecedented in a total area of 500 hectares with 24 discharging areas.
Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh also tasked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Viet Nam Academy of Science and Technology, especially the Ministry of Public Security to investigate causes of mass fish deaths.
A preliminary report from the city People’s Committee said an initial quick test conducted on October 2 showed the oxygen level of lake surface water measured zero.
Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee reported that the local authorities deployed 1,000 soldiers to help urban environmental staff and residents remove the dead fish.
In an early attempt to fix the situation quickly on Sunday, the Hà Nội administration directed the Hà Nội Urban Environment Ltd, Co to install 20 aeration devices to provide oxygen to save remaining fish in the lake, with the company’s staff working overnight.
All the dead fish were transported in 20 trucks to the Nam Sơn Waste Treatment Complex for treatment./.
