Tree-planting campaign in Ha Noi

VGP - A tree planting festival in Ha N oi has recently been held to express gratitude and pay tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh, who launched the campaign in the Spring of 1960.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said that tree planting has been a fine tradition for the whole country for 57 years now, President Ho Chi Minh planted trees at the local Thong Nhat Park, and noted that ever since, a green festival has been held nationwide every spring.

He stressed that despite being busy with heavy workload, Uncle Ho, when he was alive, always appealed to people to grow more trees.

Mr. Hai pointed to the fact that the city’s green spaces are not sufficient to maintain the balance of the ecology, while poor protection of trees, forest fires, and illegal logging have occurred.

Educational campaigns to raise public awareness of the importance of tree protection are also important, added the municipal leader.

He said Ha Noi is leading the country in urbanisationand industrialisation, which have posed environmental issues.

The capital will also grow a further 430,000 trees this year and 1 million trees between 2016 and 2020, according to Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung./.

Tree growing festivals also started in Tuyen Quang,Quang Tri, Ha Giang and Hai Phong Provinces.
