VGP - Ha Noi was identified as the tourism growth pole in the North, according to the "Cultural and Sports Facilities Network Planning" and the "Tourism System Planning for 2021-2030, with a Vision to 2045."

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong reported that Ha Noi plays the role of gateway and transfer for visitors to the Red River Delta provinces and the northern mountainous region.

The plans also emphasize the construction and establishment of eight tourism development areas to channel resources and maximize investment efficiency. In particular, in the North, they specify a dynamic tourism development area consisting of Ha Noi-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh-Ninh Binh, taking advantage of the Lao Cai-Ha Noi-Hai Phong-Quang Ninh economic corridor.

The tourism plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision until 2045, establishes that tourism development will truly become a spearhead economic sector, in a professional, modern and in-depth direction; accounting for an increasingly high proportion in the GDP structure, creating a driving force to promote other industries and sectors.

By 2025, Viet Nam will become an attractive destination with high tourism development capacity in the world; by 2030, tourism will truly become a spearhead economic sector, developing in the direction of green growth.

In 2025, Viet Nam tourism aims to welcome 25-28 million international visitors and 130 million domestic visitors, maintain a domestic visitor growth rate of 8-9 percent per year, and directly contribute 8-9% to GDP. 

By 2030, Viet Nam seeks to welcome 35 million international visitors, a growth rate of 13-15 percent per year, welcome 160 million domestic visitors, a domestic visitor growth rate of 4-5 percent per year, and directly contribute 13-14 percent to GDP.

The planning of the network of cultural and sports facilities for the period 2021-2030, with a vision up to 2045, intends to develop a synchronous, modern and unique national network of cultural facilities, with the aim of building a national image associated with absorbing the cultural quintessence of the times; ensuring the good implementation of the task of preserving and promoting the values and identity of the nation.

According to the plan, key cultural and sports centers will be established in major national and regional cities in Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Vinh, Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon, Buon Ma Thuot, HCM City and Can Tho.

The plan sets the direction for the development of a national cultural network, including museum network; library network; cinema network; performing arts network; cultural and art exhibition network and network of cultural centers in the country and Vietnamese cultural centers abroad.

Meanwhile, HCM City is identified as the national growth pole in the South, playing the role of the largest international gateway in Viet Nam, and the central coast city of Da Nang, the national growth pole in the central region, playing the role of a gateway to attract visitors by air, sea and road.

Innovating tourism products to attract more visitors to the Capital

Ha Noi's tourism industry aims to greet over 30 million visitors, including 7 million international arrivals, and earn more than VND130 trillion (US$5.11 billion) from tourism in 2025.

Under its development plan, the sector's contribution to the city's Gross Regional Domestic Product is expected to surpass 8 percent and the room occupancy for hotels and accommodations is projected to exceed 60 percent.

In the 2024-2025 period, Ha Noi continues to develop its tourism sector in a sustainable and efficient manner, serving as a tourism gateway for both the northern region and the country, and a safe, friendly and high quality destination.

The city also rolls out multiple tasks and solutions to accelerate the recovery and development of the industry, one of which is to build professional and attractive tourism products which has potential for breakthrough development, including cultural tourism, MICE tourism, agricultural - rural tourism, recreational - sports tourism, ecological tourism, resort tourism, healthcare and golf tourism.

Solutions are being deployed to attract foreign tourists to Hanoi, focusing on key markets such as Northeast Asia, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the European Union, the U.S., and gradually exploiting potential markets such as India, Middle Eastern countries, Australia and Eastern European countries.

Ha Noi's tourism sector will devise promotion plans on domestic and international media and television channels along with popularizing the capital's tourism on digital platforms and social networks as well as promotion programs in key and potential markets.

Planning and investment in developing tourism infrastructure in a professional and modern orientation will be promoted, with priority given to a number of key tourism development projects in Ba Vi, Huong Son - Quan Son and Dong Mo lake.

Focus will also be placed on upgrading destination quality and developing tourism products associated with historical and cultural values and heritage./.
