Mayor asks local residents to stay indoors as Yagi approaches Viet Nam

This is part of a public telegram of the Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee Typhoon in the wake of Yagi, the third storm to hit Viet Nam in 2024 has approached the sea area from Quang Ninh to Thai Binh, with strong winds near the storm's center.

The Chairman highlighted the importance of ensuring public safety and protecting assets.

Special attention was given to safeguarding dikes, reservoirs, and vulnerable areas with high risk of safety breaches.

The city's leadership has instructed departments and local authorities to execute preventive and responsive measures against rain, storms, floods, and natural disasters with utmost urgency and effectiveness.

The focus is on protecting lives, especially vulnerable groups such as children and those at higher risk, while minimizing damage to both personal and state property.

The Ha Noi Party Committee has also stressed the need to enhance information dissemination and public awareness. It is crucial to inform all officials, workers, businesses, and residents about the severity of Storm No. 3.

Earlier, super typhoon Yagi claimed its first casualty in the capital, as a 41-year-old woman was killed after a 15-metre tree fell on top of her in the area near Linh Dam, Ha Noi.

The tree, with a diameter of 30 centimetre, was uprooted and collapsed upon two people who were travelling on a motorbike at Nguyen Huu Tho Street. The woman, who was sitting at the back, died instantly, while the male driver is currently hospitalised in Bach Mai Hospital for a severe head injury./.
